Our Neighbors in Need Deserve the Best You Can Give
One of St. Vincent de Paul’s biggest challenges is procuring acceptable donations. Please “clean your closets” and help us help us secure gently used donations. Unfortunately, there are things we just cannot accept as donations, not because we don’t want to help you get rid of the item, but because we cannot sell them.
We rely heavily on the kindness of residents in our communities all over King County, who donate gently used clothing, household goods, and furniture to be sold in our five King County thrift stores to fund our social service programs.
When we receive donated items, which are not in a condition to sell in our stores or to give to those in need, the material is first recycled through various means.
Would you want this couch in your home? Then, why would your neighbor?
Last year we recycled 953 tons of unusable material, including, metal, electronics, clothing, shoes, and toys, keeping this waste out of landfills. Our garbage fees were still over $60,000, so we are working very hard to reduce it to keep as much money as we can in our programs to help people. When we are left with unusable items, dumped at our donation locations, we are forced to pay for the removal and disposal of these items.
