Wells Fargo Grant Award for SVdP!

Today, like most days, the St. Vincent de Paul (SVdP) Helpline will receive at least 180 calls for help. That is a very normal day for us. This works out to over 48,000 calls on an annual basis. For the past nine consecutive years, St. Vincent de Paul of Seattle King County has been the #1 referral source for requests for assistance coming to the King County 2-1-1 Crisis Line.

Thanks to Wells Fargo, we now have more resources to help more people in King County. The company has announced they have awarded St. Vincent de Paul of Seattle King County a $5,000 grant award to support our Helpline services, emergency housing and utilities assistance, food and clothing at the South Seattle Food Bank, free health assessments, home visits, referrals, and case management work.

The most critical needs arising from poverty in King County are affordable, stable housing and food security, both of which affect the ability of children to learn and capability of adults to get employment. Keeping people in housing with $100 to $200 grants for rent and utility assistance is a primary objective for SVdP.

Why? Because preventing eviction helps people and communities avoid the enormous disruption and financial havoc caused by homelessness. According to Housing & Urban Development Administration (HUD), the cost to society per homeless person per year on the streets.at is about $40,000.

SVdP Helpline assists 48,000 callers annually.

Thank you Wells Fargo!
