Water Walk for Ndavaya, Kenya 2013

From the St. Vincent de Paul Club at Kennedy High School in Burien:

On October 12, 2013, Kennedy’s St. Vincent de Paul Club hosted a water walk to support of water and education efforts in Ndavaya, Kenya.  Girls in Kenya have to walk a long distance during class just to get water for their village.  Alongside Kennedy, groups of students from O’Dea and Holy Names participated in this event.

The groups walked from Kennedy High School to St. Francis of Assisi School with their three- and five-gallon buckets, guided by teachers. At St. Francis, students filled their buckets with water then made the long walk back carrying their heavy buckets, experiencing what the Kenyan girls have to.  Students returned to Kennedy using the water for the plants in the senior center across the street and the plants in front of the school campus.

The walk totaled four miles round trip and took more than an hour to complete.  Students formed groups of three of four and raised at least $100 for this cause.  In the end, around 75 Kennedy, Holy Names, and O’Dea students were able to raise a grand total of $2,716 in support of the community of Ndavaya, Kenya.  All proceeds are being sent to the community of Ndavaya, Kenya.
