Too Much to Handle
Charlotte is on a fixed income and was already struggling financially when she recently suffered a stroke. She had moved into her apartment a few months ago. When she started utility service at her new address, she was informed she owed for a rather large bill from a former address. In order to establish new service, she was required to commit to a repayment agreement on the old bill. She agreed to pay $95 a month on the old bill and at least 50% of what was due on the new bill each month.
This commitment has been impossible for her to keep up with on her own. She has received help a few times through various agencies, but is struggling to keep her lights on. Following her recent stroke, she is very stressed and describes the daily agony of just, “trying to get her body to work.” She loses focus and things like this bill are “too much for her to handle” at this point. She was very upset when she called for help and was very reassured when we told her we could make a pledge on her account. We pledge $100, just slightly more than she needed to prevent shut off. We thank the donors like you who enable us to help people like Charlotte.
