St. Vincent de Paul of Seattle|King County is building a new community social service center that includes a Neighborcare Health clinic and a case management and training facility at its 13555 Aurora Avenue thrift store location in North Seattle. The new two story project, located on the South section of the agency’s property, is an addition to the agency’s existing thrift store retail operations, and will have access facing Aurora Avenue on the East as well as access entries from the existing retail store. The agency expects the new facility will be ready for occupancy in the fall of 2014. The transformation of the Aurora Thrift Store, according to Executive Director Ned Delmore, is part of a long range strategic plan for the agency to make more social and health services available at its network of five thrift stores. “Our most important strategy is to create a network of social service centers in neighborhoods in the county which link our 12,000 home visits and 44,000 calls to our Help Line to bricks and mortar locations where people can get help at the neighborhood level,” said Delmore. He said his agency believes that “more neighborhood access” to services is a more efficient way to connect people being helped in the agency’s home visit program to longer term services.
The project includes construction of an 1,800 sq. ft. first floor medical clinic to be managed by Neighborcare Health and an 1,800 sq. ft. second floor St. Vincent de Paul Case Management, counseling, and training facility. Officials say the project will also include minor remodeling of the Doors, donation center and adjacent parking lot.
Delmore explained that Neighborcare Health is a good fit for St. Vincent de Paul.
“They work closely with the homeless, the poor and marginalized and many Veterans in need of health care, so we believe our two organizations share a lot of common values and belief about helping people in our community,” added Delmore.
The Neighborcare Health clinic will include offices, two examination rooms, a care team center, a laboratory, kitchenette, bathroom, and a waiting area lobby adjacent to the clinic entrance facing Aurora Avenue. Neighborcare Health is the largest provider of primary medical and dental care in Seattle for low income and uninsured families and individuals. The agency has been serving the Seattle area for more than 40 years.
