Assumption Conference — Baskets for Neighbors

Every year many of our SVdP Conferences assemble and deliver baskets of nutritious food to neighbors in communities throughout King County. Some conferences, like Assumption and St. Vincent de Paul, utilize their food baskets to help neighbors and as an important strategy for engagement and communications.

We checked in with our Assumption Conference in North Seattle a few days ago. This year the conference collected food items for Thanksgiving Baskets to help over 45 families living in their conference area and near the St. Bridget Conference area as well.

The conference accumulated non-perishable food items in advance of final preparation and delivery, completed on the Sunday before Thanksgiving. Additionally, on this final preparation Sunday, Parishioners brought fresh fruits and vegetables to church.

Then after Mass on final preparation Sunday, parishioners were given written instructions on how to prepare the baskets by moving through a specially created food basket assembly line and get the baskets full of items for delivery. The completed baskets where then delivered later that morning.

This strategy gives parishioners insight into important Assumption Conference work and demonstrates the value St. Vincent de Paul brings to the parish.

Congratulations to Assumption Conference on this very creative and innovative engagement idea!
