Kenmore Mural: Support Maintenance Fund

The Kenmore Mural Project at St. Vincent de Paul was officially dedicated on Labor Day, September 5, 2016. Festivities included speeches, a ribbon cutting ceremony and sharing of lots of stories about the mural and the history and community of Kenmore. It was truly an amazing end of the beginning journey for the mural. It started as the mustard seed of an idea, grew,  blossomed and took off like wildfire when artists A Gaul Culley and Staci Adman began painting. They started in early May and finished in early September of 2016. A long, hard and very fulfilling journey for the artists, the City of Kenmore, St. Vincent de Paul and the community partners who raised money and supported the mural project in so many ways.

We encourage everyone to enjoy the mural and please visit our store, where the mural is located. We have a display inside our Kenmore store just to the left of the entrance that reviews the mural and talks about our responsibility for maintenance. We have a fund for that purpose and we encourage everyone to donate to help us keep the mural looking great.

If you haven’t seen the Kenmore Mural (West wall of St. Vincent’s Kenmore thrift store), it is worth a drive to Kenmore for a visit. The passion the mural artists and their community volunteers have for the Kenmore Mural is self-evident in this huge undertaking.

Cutting the Mural Ribbon 9-6-16The drawings and renderings they presented in community meetings in the fall and winter of 2015, are now becoming larger than life on the 188 ft. long by 12 ft. tall wall. Clearly the long and arduous days of painting this summer, the minute attention to detail, and the vibrancy now apparent as we head toward the finish (mural painting completed by Sept. 5, 2016) mean one thing. This is a labor of love that will become a major community asset. We must not forget that.

From the vantage point of St. Vincent de Paul, the admirable work of A Gaul Culley, Staci Adman and their corps of dedicated volunteers is beyond our expectations. Additionally, the generous outpouring of financial support from so many Kenmore businesses and community partners has been marvelous. Kenmore should be proud.

We are very pleased with all of the work to date and excited to be part of such an important project.
