Celebrating Black History Month
During the month of February, we celebrate Black History Month; a time dedicated to recognizing the achievements, contributions, and culture of African Americans throughout history. Black History Month serves as a reminder of the perseverance of the African American community in the face of adversity, while acknowledge their impact in various fields relating to science, math, art, social justice, health/beauty, agriculture and more.
Black History Month started originally in 1926 by historian Carter G. Woodson, who created "Negro History Week." Over time, this idea evolved into a month-long observance where we focus on African American leaders ranging from Martin Luther King Jr. to Maya Angelou. It also brings awareness to racial inequality, social justice issues, and the ongoing fight for equality for everyone.
Black History Month is not only for the African American community but for everyone to learn, appreciate, and celebrate diversity.
