Census Still Moving Forward!

 The Census Bureau says the coronavirus pandemic has slowed down the key dates for the collection and publication of its data and reports, but the Census is moving forward. The bureau said it would extend the deadline for collecting census data, now Aug. 15, to Oct. 31, 2020. It will be opening field offices sometime in early June 2020.

The Census Bureau announced that it would ask that delivery of the final census figures be postponed to April 30, 2021, 120 days beyond the existing Dec. 31, 2020 deadline. This means state legislatures will receive final population figures for drawing new maps as late as July 31, 2021.

The Census Bureau said it was asking Congress for a four-month delay in delivering the census data used to reapportion the House of Representatives and political districts nationwide.
