$.90 of $1 Helps

Think about this about this for more than a moment. At St. Vincent de Paul of Seattle|King County, about 90 cents of every dollar donated to us goes to programs to help people. We don’t have lavish facilities, big salaries, or fancy cars. We do have big hearts and a mission that is devoted to the compassion and dignity or others. That is what we are about.

We have also been around for awhile—over 180 years to be exact. We weren’t started by a church, a big foundation, or a group of rich donors. Our founder was a college student, a young man who saw the world through a different lens. We still see the world through the legacy of his lens.

We are one of the oldest and most respected charities in King County. We have been here since 1920, 95 years, helping the poor and vulnerable, running thrift stores, recycling all kinds of housewares and clothing items and serving the community in a variety of different ways.

Think about the 90 cents this way. Let’s say you donate $100 to us. That means $90 goes directly to helping someone. We have thousands of callers dialing into our Helpline who need help with rent and keeping their heat and lights on. More often than not, the $90 or the $100 donation can help those callers stay in their homes, a much better prospect than having them on the streets.

One of our primary services is helping reduce homelessness by blocking evictions for families and individuals. We estimate we prevent close to 7,500 evictions per year. Additionally, St. Vinnie’s is the #1 referral source for Crisis Line 2-1-1 calls in King County, receiving over 25,000 referrals last year, largest among the 1,700 social service agencies in King County.
