Spanish-Speaking Math Tutor Needed
Centro Rendu is St. Vincent de Paul of Seattle/King County’s Hispanic Outreach program. Centro Rendu’s Adult Educational Center in Kent helps our neighbors with Spanish Literacy, Primary and Secondary Education, GED preparation, Conversational English, Computer Literacy, as well as Case Management, immigration counseling, and referrals to other service agencies. We are seeking a Spanish-Speaking Math Tutor for our adult students at Centro Rendu.
Job Requirements
- Experience working with elementary, junior high and high school adult students with multiple social and economic barriers.
- Mastering of the subject of MATH for GED level and skilled with Biology, Chemistry and other sciences for elementary, junior high and high school level. Creates own mathematics, biology, chemistry and other sciences materials to teach and be able to satisfy the needs of all level of the INEA System and the GED requirements (these materials must stay and be sole property of Centro Rendu)
- Must teach Mathematics, Biology, Chemistry and other sciences with his/her own developed materials based on the needs of the INEA System and GED requirements in addition to the existing materials. Must be able to blend them or eliminate unnecessary materials.
- Must maintain positive learning environment and have ability to relate to all students, parents, and colleagues.
- Be able to solve and share all the previous mentioned levels of Mathematics tests for the Mexican program INEA and multiple GED test practices for Math, Sciences, Social Studies and Reading and writing (the four division of courses to complete the GED certification) to benefit of the Centro Rendu programs (these tests must stay and be sole property of the Centro Rendu for future training and references)
- Knowledge and/or training in balanced literacy, whole language/integrated curriculum, differentiated instruction, assessment tools and techniques, constructivist mathematics, inquiry based science and social studies, cooperative learning, student learning styles, positive discipline and multicultural education.
- Ability to exhibit multicultural and ethnic understanding and sensitivity with the ability to communicate effectively with all cultural groups in the school community.
- Desired teacher characteristics are: flexibility; ability to organize ideas, time and materials to accomplish goals; enthusiasm; ability to express ideas clearly and understand concepts being discussed; ability to learn new ideas and skills; ability and willingness to develop favorable relationships with students; knowledge of current approaches to teaching.
- Excellent technology skills and can use and incorporate computers/technology into curriculum.
Time Commitment
Classes are held between 9am-1pm and 5pm-8pm. We are asking that our Math Tutor commit to volunteering at least 2-3 mornings and/or afternoons per week.
