IRS-logoThe Society of St. Vincent de Paul Council of Seattle|King County is a qualified charity according to IRS Rules. If you donated $250 or more to our organization in 2015, you will need a receipt for proof that you donated.

The best way to look at donations: (1) for a cash donation, you need to have some kind of proof that you did make the donation, e.g. a cancelled check or a listing on your credit card statement.

For in-kind donations like clothing and furniture, the IRS says “you can’t take a deduction for clothing or household items you donate unless the clothing or household items are in good used condition or better.” They also relate there is one exception, “you can take a deduction for a contribution of an item of clothing or a household item that isn’t in good used condition or better if you deduct more than $500 for it and include a qualified appraisal of it with your return.”
