December 30, 2015 By AdminSVdP

We are excited to have the Mobile Medical Unit visit our Georgetown Food Bank every other Friday throughout the month of January – 1/8, 1/15, and 1/29 – in conjunction with our FACES outreach program. FACES stands for food, assistance compassion, and emergency services. What extensive resources we will be able to offer individuals and families experiencing homelessness on those particular Friday mornings and afternoons. Please share this message with anyone you know [of] who may benefit from these services. Thank you to Brent Swartz, Josh Hoke, and the rest of their team as well as HealthPoint for all of your health grassroots efforts!  [Read more…]

Banner: Doing the Right Thing!

December 21, 2015 By SVdPadmin

Food Bank Outside Line 12-21-15We want to offer a huge thank you to the leadership, management and the employees of our good neighbors at Banner Bank at 5701 First Ave. South for a very, very generous donation to St. Vincent de Paul. We have been around for over 95 years. Banner has been serving people for 125 years. We office just a few blocks from the first avenue Banner branch and they are a great neighbor. Banner employees drive by our organization a few days a week and see the people we are serving (see photo below). They understand community, honesty, compassion and accountability. Banner is known for “doing the right thing,” and we are proud to be associated with them. Thank you again for your donation.

St. Joseph Students at Our Food Bank!

December 21, 2015 By SVdPadmin

We were excited to have groups of St. Joseph 2nd grade students and their chaperones and parents visit our Georgetown Food Bank on three different days. They arrived singing, chatting and bringing youth and energy to our surroundings. The students distributed food to individuals and families in need. The warm energy from the students brought smiles to those who picked up food. Many enjoyed the “best field trip” so much they wanted to stay for the rest of the afternoon.

St. Joseph students—-you are always welcome any time at St. Vincent de Paul. We are grateful for your help and donations. Thank you again!

Centro Rendu Graduates Forty Sat., Dec. 19!

December 18, 2015 By SVdPadmin

Hispanic Woman in Class 11-3-14Centro Rendu, is pleased to announce that 40 students will receive graduation certificates on Saturday, Dec.19 at Kent Memorial Park. Centro Rendu is a program managed by St. Vincent de Paul of Seattle King County.

According to Mirya Munõz-Roach, Director of Hispanic Outreach for Society of St. Vincent de Paul of Seattle|King County, graduating is a significant accomplishment. Many Centro Rendu students came from dire poverty, attended classes after work hours, began learning how to read, and made various personal sacrifices to be able to complete the course work and earn a certificate.

This coming Saturday, they are set to receive their certificates in primary and secondary education. Munõz-Roach observed that Centro Rendu students have gradually developed the confidence to take on more challenging educational opportunities and have become more engaged in their communities. These investments all started with a commitment to attend literacy classes on a regular basis.

The Mayor of the City of Kent, Suzette Cooke, will be attending the Ceremony. She has been involved in the development of the Centro Rendu program for several years. She will be participating in the Ceremony along with the students and many of their families.

Please join us in congratulating our students:

About Centro Rendu

Centro Rendu, a community based and Latino-led program in South King County, provides culturally and linguistically appropriate case management, literacy education, and advocacy designed to increase stability, parent engagement, self-empowerment, and civic involvement for Latino families. Last year in Kent, Centro Rendu served 529 individuals with direct services and provided over 4,500 referrals out into the community. We anticipate that our growth in our Renton Centro Rendu office will be quick and substantial.

We have opened a Centro Rendu Adult Education Resource Center at our SVdP Renton Thrift Store. We are just getting under way. We estimate that our Centro Rendu office in Renton will provide education and support services to close to 200 Latino adults per month.

Las Posadas at Centro Rendu

December 10, 2015 By AdminSVdP

P1040269

Inaugural Las Posadas at SVdP Kent on Friday, December 4, 2015.

One of special programs, Centro Rendu is hosting a series of community events throughout this month called Las Posadas, which is a multi-day holiday tradition that incorporates food, music, and gifting associated with the Christmas spirit and the traditions of pilgrimage from home to home seeking posada, or shelter. Celebrating their own version of Las Posadas, Centro Rendu recognizes many cultural Christmas traditions of our diverse friends and families while introducing their core social services and programming.

Last week was the inaugural Las Posadas event in which over 70 families visited the posada of Centro Rendu. All enjoyed food, drinks, and gift bags, which thanks to the Molina Foundation, included a free book. If you missed our first Las Posadas event, no worries!

The second Las Posadas event will be held tomorrow at our Renton thrift store location. We are excited to be joined by Consulado de México en Seattle, our very own Executive Director Ned Delmore, and a few other distinguished guests. Please consider joining us tomorrow any time between 3:30PM and 6:30PM at 575 Rainier Ave North, Renton, WA 98057.
