Waiting for Unemployment Benefits
Ginny is a single mom with a young daughter. She recently lost her job and is waiting to see if she is approved for unemployment benefits, but has no income at the moment. She borrowed enough money from friends and family to pay their rent, but did not get it together until after the due date. She paid the rent in full, but had been assessed $80 in late fees, which put them at risk for eviction. SVdP was able to pay the $80 to keep Ginny and her daughter in their home.
Ensure that our neighbors have the help they need, when they need it. Our neighbors are dealing with tragic situations and seek help from St. Vincent de Paul of Seattle|King County every day. Thanks to our donors, they are able to receive assistance from St. Vincent de Paul of Seattle/King County when there is no one else who can help.
When Part-Time Work Isn’t Enough
Ranya is a single mom with two teenagers. She has a part-time job but her hours vary and she has trouble getting by. Her rent is subsidized, so she only pays $150 a month, which is helpful. However, she pays all of her family’s utilities and is very behind on her electric bill. She owed over $1,200 and had no way to pay this amount, or even the half necessary to prevent immediate shut off. She had an appointment with Centerstone and was able to get a LIHEAP pledge of $734. She called the Help Line to see if we could pay the last $100 needed to prevent shut off. Donor support made is possible for us to help Ranya keep her power on for her family.

Thank You, Tiny Tots
Earlier this week, we had some visitors from Tiny Tots Development Center.
These students toured SVdP to learn about our programs to help the poor and how donations support that work.
They also worked hard in our food bank, serving our guests with their friendly, smiling faces.
We are so grateful for the time that these wonderful young people spent serving our neighbors in need.
Thank you for your help, Tiny Tots!!
Aviation Donates to SVdP
We applaud the students of Raisbeck Aviation High School for helping transform the lives of people who are less fortunate. Your generous clothing donations help families throughout King County. We could not perform our work without your gracious and heartfelt generosity. Thank you for all that you do for us!
Starting Over After Prison
Geoff was recently released from prison. He moved into a Clean and Sober House immediately following his release. His girlfriend paid the deposit and first month’s rent for him but he has to find funding for next month on his own. He is looking for work, but is unemployed at the moment. He called the Help Line for assistance and we were able to pay $100 of his rent. The house manager says they will work with him to give him time to find the rest of the balance due since he is actively seeking assistance as well as employment. We appreciate our donors who make it possible for us to help people like Geoff on their way to self-sufficiency.

Thanks, Holy Names Staff
Last week, we had several volunteers from the Holy Names Academy staff work at our Aurora Thrift Store.
While we have finished our new community social service center, which will include a Neighborcare Health Clinic and Case Management facility, we are finishing up work to improve our thrift store.
These Holy Names staff volunteers worked to organize the whole store – from furniture to books and from household goods to clothing.
They also helped with sorting through donations and putting items out on the floor for sale.
Sales in our stores support our social service programs to help our struggling neighbors, so having the store clean and organized for shoppers is a great help!
We are very grateful for the support of these Holy Names staff volunteers.
Thank you for your wonderful help!
You Helped Keep April’s Water Running
April is a single mom of four children. She works part-time at a grocery store, where her hours can vary greatly and her earnings fluctuate as a result. Getting by is a constant struggle for April, as she feels like it is just “one bill after another.” She struggles to keep up. When she called SVdP, her family’s water was at risk of disconnection. Because of donors like you, SVdP was able to pay $100 to prevent disconnection so the family could have access to water at home.

Sur La Table Gives Generously to SVdP
Well, our friends at Sur La Table have done it again! We got a huge donation of samples from their warehouse to sell in our stores. Donations like this help us keep our shelves full of treasures that keep our shoppers coming back. Winter is always a slow time for us for donations, so we are extremely excited about this timely gift.
Thank you so much for the generous donation, Sur La Table. We could not help our neighbors in need without the kindness of donors like you.
NW School Students Volunteer
The SVdP Food Bank was fortunate to have some awesome volunteers from Northwest School earlier this week.
These tenth graders helped sort and bag food before the doors opened on Tuesday.
Then, when the doors opened to our guests, these students greeted them with their smiling faces and compassionate hearts.
We are so grateful for the help that these Northwest School students provided us in the food bank.
Thank you for serving our neighbors in need!!
Thanks, FedEx!
Our friends from FedEx volunteered in our Georgetown Food Bank last week.
These FedEx volunteers helped serve guests of our FACES (Food, Assistance, Compassion, and Emergency Services) program for the homeless people in the Georgetown area.
The FedEx volunteers were busy handing out food to help our homeless friends make it through the weekend. We designed the program to serve food that is high in protein and doesn’t require preparation or refrigeration.
We also supply our guests with hygiene items, health assessments, and free clothing. Tom was so busy handing out clothing that he didn’t even have time to pose for a picture!
We could not operate the food bank without the support of volunteers from the community, so we really appreciate this group of volunteers, who took time out of their work day to help serve our homeless friends.
The hard work and compassion that these volunteers showed how much FedEx truly cares about our neighbors in need.

Clean Your Closets: Help Needy
Please clean your closets and find gently used clothing items that can still be sold and used again. We sell these items every day of the week. Look through your kitchen cabinets and find miscellaneous items or duplicates of things like pots and pans, maybe a second coffee grinder you haven’t used in years, or a still good working waffle iron or some other small kitchen item that is still working. Clothing and small items are very popular sellers.
Remember it is “what we can sell” that we are after. Please avoid the “some poor person would want this” rationale. Trust us that if the item does not work, or is ripped or stained, some needy person can’t benefit from getting it. We have owned and operated St. Vinnie’s thrift stores in Seattle and King County since 1926. We have always sought donations to sell at our stores, putting the proceeds from our sales into our programs to help people. So thank you in advance for helping us!
