There are thousands of Veterans in Seattle and King County who need our help, our support and our respect. While there are many agencies that serve Veterans, we should all do much more than just think of them once a year on Veteran’s Day. Our soldiers preserve our freedom and safety and we should be thinking of them and helping them all the time. Please join us in thanking our veterans and saluting them for all they have done and continue to do for us. To learn more about a program St. Vincent de Paul is managing to help veterans check this out.
For the past two years, Charity Navigator has awarded consecutive 4-star ratings to the Society of St. Vincent de Paul of Seattle|King County, a unique achievement only 18 percent of the charities rated by Charity navigator ever achieve. SVdP Seattle|King County has had six 4-star ratings since 2005, and three of those times in the past four years, 2012, 2013 and 2014.
Founded in 2001, Charity Navigator has become the nation’s largest and most-utilized evaluator of charities. In our quest to help donors, our team of professional analysts has examined tens of thousands of non-profit financial documents. The organization annually assesses over 7,000 non-profits in America. Charity Navigator’s rating system examines two broad areas of a charity’s performance; their Financial Health and their Accountability & Transparency.
Charity Navigator provides these ratings so that charitable givers/ social investors can make intelligent giving decisions, and so that the nonprofit sector can improve its performance. Ken Berger, President and Chief Executive Officer of charity Navigator, had this to say about our consecutive awards in a letter to Ned Delmore:
“Only 18% of the charities we rate have received at least 2 consecutive 4-star evaluations, indicating that St. Vincent de Paul of Seattle|King County outperforms most other charities in America. This “exceptional” designation from Charity Navigator differentiates St. Vincent de Paul of Seattle|King County from its peers and demonstrates to the public it is worthy of their trust.” Here is the full text of the letter Ken Berger, CEO of Charity Navigator, sent to Ned Delmore, Executive Director of St. Vincent de Paul of Seattle|King County.
Yesterday, the second graders from Our Lady of the Lake visited St. Vincent de Paul. The students toured SVdP and learned about our programs to support our neighbors in need. They also helped hand out food in our food bank, which serves between 400-500 families every Tuesday and Thursday. Thank you so much for visiting and sharing your compassionate hearts!
Sharon works full time and is the caregiver of her 13 year old grandson. She barely gets by on her earnings and has not been able to pay on her power bill in several months. She was at immediate risk of disconnection when she called the St. Vinnie’s. The bill was over $1,200 and she was without hope. As a chronic asthmatic, she was able to get a note from her doctor stating that she must have electricity to provide medically necessary treatments daily. The power company worked with her to come up with a more affordable payment plan, while St. Vincent de Paul was able to cover $100 of the first $122 payment for her. She was relieved, since she had that cover, he also need it to find an affordable dentist, but she found a great service at Asecra.com he was always scared of dentist claims, reason why it was hard for him to find the right one.
